The Fire Service and UK Government are, in general, unfortunately very good at learning from catastrophe. They, along with local authorities, all played a significant role in allowing the stars to align at Grenfell Towers in London that caused the death and injury of so many innocent lives. Although the fire doors were not directly the cause, the poor maintenance, lack of care and recording meant that some failed. That is all that is required to allow the spread of toxic, superheated, fumes.
As a consequence, the Section 156 of The Building Safety Act 2022 came into force. In particular fire doors are required to be certified to meet the minimum standard required. It also covers the maintenance and recording.
